Transportation Improvement Award Requirements
 

Eligibility

Eligible projects for the “Donald C. Schramm Transportation Improvement Award” shall be directly related to one or more of the following areas of the field of transportation:

Bridges
·                    
Railroads
·                    
Public Transit
·                    
Bikeways
·                    
Other Related Projects 

General Criteria

1.   Projects entered in the competition must be located within the geographic area of the ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section. 

2.   Construction of the project must have been substantially completed and ready for use between January and December of the competitions current year. 

3.   Entries must be sponsored by a member of the ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section. 

4.  Each submitted entry must be accompanied by the materials outlined in the Submission Requirements. 

5.   ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section will not be responsible for any damage or loss to entrant’s submission materials. 

6. The ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section Board of Directors reserves the right to determine the eligibility of all entries. 

Submission Requirements 

Entries must include:

7.  The original and two (2) copies of the Official Entry Form.

8.   The signature of the sponsoring member on the entry form will be considered verification that the project is substantially completed and ready for use between January and December of the competitions current year. 

9.   Two (2) copies of a project description, not to exceed two (2) pages (8.5" x 11" with 1" side margins, minimum 12 point font) excluding any pages containing photos, graphs, charts, etc., within the two (2) page limit.  (Some suggestions of content in the submission are original or innovative application of new or existing design, and/or construction techniques or materials, technical value to the engineering or construction profession, social, economic, and environmental value to the region, complexity, and rating of the expectations of the owner or the regional needs.) 

10.  Entry fee in the amount of $35.00.  Make checks payable to “ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section”.



Judging of Entries

1.    All entries will be judged by the nine (9) members of the ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section Board of Directors. 

2.   The Board of Directors will rate each entry to determine the top three (3) rated entries (competition finalists) in each of the categories specified for the award. 

3.   The sponsors of the competition finalists in each category shall give a presentation at the January General Membership Meeting.  The format of each presentation will be at the discretion of the presenter.  The time allotted for each presentation will be determined by the Board of Directors.  The general membership in attendance at this meeting will vote by ballot for the projects receiving the award.  All ballots will be submitted at the end of the meeting.  Results of the voting will be tallied by the Chairperson of the Transportation Improvement Award and presented to the ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section Board of Directors at the March Board Meeting.  There is only one (1) award for each category. 

Presentation of Awards 

4.    Awards will be presented to the owner, design firm, and general construction contractor of the winning entries at the annual ASHE - TRIKO Valley Section Capital Improvement Program meeting in March.
